May was such a lost cause for me and working in the yard. Luckily Alberto's crew came early in the month and did a cleanup throughout and brought in a lot of new dark bark mulch. And, of course, all the rain during the month got things growing like crazy. Some things, like the Jupiter's Beard didn't do as well this year with so much rain. I have held off planting very much this spring. I have a lot of new perennials that I planted last fall, and it looks like most survived the winter. Mixed in with the mature perennials, I may just call it good this year. We will have watering restrictions and I know the perennials can handle less water just fine. I planted lots of annuals in pots and a few in the ground; all are getting watered by hand at this time as I don't want to run the sprinklers. I need to get out and tackle the new weeds that have already started up. But it all seems manageable now. Here are some shots. Very similar to previous years, I know; but I always like to have a record of how the summer started and ended.
Yes, everything is really that green. And I haven't been watering, except for one hot day when I ran the sprinklers for five minutes at each zone to cool things down. And thanks to Blogger, the order of my pictures is scrambled. So here they are in no particular order.

Thanks, TB. Even since taking these pictures, many of the perennials have started blooming and more color in coming on all the time. I've worked at this for years trying to get a good mix of color and timing of blooms so as to have prettiness spring through fall, while having a yard that uses less and less water. The mature perennials really only need water once a week or so. I'm still planting new things, but hand watering so I don't over-water the older plants.
