Where I like to hang out

As part of my recent remodeling and redecorating, I've been moving artwork around, too, trying things out on different walls.  I am lucky to have a few pieces of lovely original artwork, among them some special pieces by our own blogger and facebook friend Jacqui Binford-Bell.  I promised to send her a picture when I had these hung and never got around to it until now.  Jacqui's style has such appeal, and from the time I saw her paintings, I knew I wanted some to hang in my home.  Over time I was able to acquire a couple of my favorites.  I'm surprised myself that these didn't include any of the goddess series nor ones with the swirly stars, which I just love.  But these were a couple that really grabbed my attention and became my choices when it came time to select my very favorite.  At first I had these hanging on darker plainer walls which really provided a much better setting for the paintings.  But I like them better hanging in this room because they have the right mood and colors for the room, and since I hang out here more than anywhere else in the house, I get to enjoy looking at them more.

This is my TV room where I sit with laptop and remote control and keep up with the world.  It is a room of whimsy and color with the bright yellow striped walls (painted on - not wallpaper), fun objects like my Book Woman afghan, a pillow that declares "It's Good to Be Queen", Harry Potter book ends, and an elephant lamp.  My daughter says it's an Alice in Wonderland room.  It's a happy little spot that reflects my attitude, personality, and most of the time my mood.

So for now I'm keeping the artwork here because here is where I like it.  One day I'll paint over all these stripes and make a more mature subdued room.  And Jacqui's lovely work will have a more suitable background.  And I'm sure I'll enjoy it just as well.

Frankly I like them on the stripes. And how well the rest of the room goes with them.

I too like my favorite pieces of art where I can enjoy them.

I'm glad you approve. It's surprising to me how each piece of art either works with or fights a room. It's a personal response, of course, but isn't it true you just know when you've put something in the right place?

Yes, it is very true. I have a couple paintings in my LR - one by another artist and one by me and they just belong on the walls they are on. I cannot even imagine moving them. I move paintings around them but they stay put.

And I have another piece by a artist friend of mine that I designed and redecorated the little bath around because it just fit no place else. But it is quite at home there.

Lucky you to have some of Jacqui's paintings. I'm working on it.

I love the way this room looks - cozy and very importantly, yours.

Thanks for your comments, Bee. You've just been having way too much fun lately!

Keep working on acquiring a Jacqui painting. Once you're ready, you'll find the hardest part is deciding which one you want the most.

Thanks, Mick. It's a bit bright for some people. I have one sister who really does not like this room - she like quieter, subdued colors. If I were selling my house, I'd have to repaint this room for sure as the range of people who might like it is probably pretty narrow. But since I'm the one who lives here, and I find the colors happy and stimulating, it stays for now.

btw...thanks for the movie review. You said exactly what I should have the first time and couldn't find the right words. I didn't find the subject matter funny at all. Maybe I better stick with my other blog (the "nature" one). At least there I can articulate my feelings.

Hi TB, I did get a little carried away with my opinion, I'm afraid. I sure don't think that movie was award material on any level. Do keep writing your reviews, I appreciate them and I'm sure others do as well.

What a cosy little nook! Looks just right for relaxing in and reading a book in.

Jacqui's paintings are just right where they are and contribute tot he general ambience of the room!
