Sunday Morning Reverie

You were expecting something thoughtful here with that title. But this morning's reverie will have the sound of an aging sputtering engine as I attempt to mow my lawn for only the second time in July. The dry hot weather has kept the grass from growing fast, so it's not out of control. But temps are dropping a bit and things are starting to grow again. This evening I'll actually give the lawn some Weed n Feed fertilizer to stimulate more growth and see if we can't green it up a bit. I'll have to water right after feeding as there will be no rain tonight or for the foreseeable future.

I'm thinking of washing the outside of the windows, though not making any promises. They so need it, but we'll see how my energy holds out.

So that's my reverie. Hopefully something more thoughtful will be coming the next time.

UPDATE: Did indeed get the lawn mowed. That poor old mower started on the first pull. Mother Nature cooperated with an overcast sky. Zipped through that job in nothing flat. Then got the outside windows done, and after a long rest, the inside windows too. Well just the front and side. The three rear windows are ground level and easy to reach, so I'll just do those on a lunch hour one day this week.

Hi Mick,

Your comment reminded me I was talking with some friends yesterday, the husband being a Brit too, and when I mentioned windows they were telling me how everyone in England gets their windows washed every week no matter what. Sydney (the husband) even sang me a little ditty about the things I see when washing windows. So is it true, Mick? I can't imagine trying to keep up with my windows every week. It's an hour and a half job just to do the outsides.

Once in spring and once if fall for the windows. Windex has a new outside window product that you hook the hose to and it works pretty darn good.

I got the weed wacker out today and edged around my fence and raised beds and the new herb/flower garden. Then I got out the walk behind mower and did the lawn up close to the house. Wasn't a possibility of rain today but tonight it has risen to 40% probably because I watered the gardens and the trees.

Then I took a nap. Good Sunday reverie that!

I also think working with nature grounds us nicely.

A nap! That's what I forgot.

I know that song: George Formby: Ukulele player, singer and comedian, 1904–1961 "When I'm Cleaning Windows"! I have to check out that YouTube and see if it is George! And Yes, window cleaning is a must -but I recall it was always hard to get a window cleaner so I had a lovely man who was my gardener (mowed the lawn)/window cleaner/ painter/ builder - all in all 'a handyman'.
My mother always put vinegar in the water and finished off with newspaper. Wonderful! You would walk straight into them!

Mowing lawns and cleaning windows?...not my idea of a relaxing Sunday.
None the less I guess they have to be done.
We are in winter so lawns lay dormant..no need for mowing...which is probably a good thing cos I don't have a mower.

Don't remind me of mowers. Mine is on its last legs. I had intended to buy a new one this year, but have somehow gotten by again. Next year for sure. Several friends have suggested goats. I don't know . . .

I used to own goats. They do come with their own special set of issues not the least of which all the neighborhood dogs want to kill them so figure a 6 foot fence.

I rather like mowing. Especially my riding mower.
